Joy Oelfke, LPC
Licensed Professional Counselor
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and work with children, adolescents and adults. Our brain opens up to new ideas and change when we feel safe and connected. My philosophy of care is grounded in creating an emotionally safe place and supportive connections that allow clients to grow towards their personal goals of health and healing. Knowing who we are, acting authentically and within our strengths and addressing past pain can allow us to feel more empowered and in control of our lives. I believe that through intentional reflection and validation, as well as emotional skill development we can address emotional pain and make life changes that better reflect ourselves, our needs and our personal values.
My experience includes working with trauma, anxiety, depression, abuse, identity, stress management, relationship issues, cross-culturally and community systems, such as child welfare and justice systems. I have experience working with commercial and family sexual abuse, including clarification/reunification.
I support clients from a background of Interpersonal Neurobiology, Jungian philosophy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Trauma-Informed Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Attachment Theory, Mindfulness and Collaborative Problem Solving. While working together we may use a variety treatment interventions, including talk, writing, sand tray, EMDR, education and art. I am also passionate about the way therapeutic and educational groups can foster connection, authenticity and emotional skills. I have completed EMDRIA approved EMDR basic training Levels 1-3 through the Parnell Institute.
