I work with adults aged 18-60, providing psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and psychotherapy.
I began my path to becoming a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner as a labor and delivery nurse. After six years, I returned to school, at the University of New Mexico, to become a certified nurse midwife. I had the immense privilege of working with families in this role for 17 years before deciding it was time to use my skills in a new way. I received my post-master's certificate as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner from Frontier Nursing University, seeking to reach patients with trauma/burnout related to working in healthcare, as well as those with trauma related to receiving healthcare, particularly perinatal/obstetric trauma.
My decades spent with families in labor informed me on how to be with people during their most fearful and uncomfortable moments, as a support person and a guide. I approach my practice as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner in a similar way. My care is holistic and grounded in understanding the social, emotional, cultural, physical, and psychological experiences of my patients. I provide respectful, personalized care, always in partnership with my patients while recognizing the right to self-determination. I believe the process of engaging in mental health care can be empowering, and I have confidence in patients' abilities. Through my presence, I strive to provide care and healing, guided by evidence, that is centered on your values and preferences.
I live with a house full of humans and beasts, who keep me young and age me, simultaneously. I endeavor to keep them, and all the plants, alive and well, while also quilting, crafting, going dancing, and creating community in Portland.
