Counseling can be an exciting, confusing, scary, and fun process – sometimes all in the same session! I recognize the courage it takes to initiate the process with someone you don’t yet know. Hopefully by reading a little about us you find a practitioner that resonates with you here at Willamette.
In my counseling work, I view the client-counselor relationship as central and come from a theoretical approach that is person-centered and strengths-based. Often in my work with clients, I find that our time involves clarifying problems, looking at personal needs, exploring personality characteristics and relationship styles, working through past and current experiences, and discussing plans of action and future hopes or goals. My goal as a therapist is to help facilitate this process, help you to discover your available options and make choices that feel authentic to who you are, and provide you with the opportunity to work towards a healthier life. I utilize various theories and techniques from other models, in which I have been trained, to best accommodate your unique situation.
I enjoy working with adults across the lifespan and the various issues, transitions, and experiences that are unique to each stage of life. I have experience working with anxiety, depression, identity formation, stress management, cross-cultural experiences, and relational issues.
Some areas of interest and focus include men’s issues, life transitions, working with individuals from the LGBTQ+ or older adult communities, as well as how physical and mental health impact one another.
I have also received training in neurofeedback and am happy to provide this treatment in addition to counseling you may be engaged in or as a stand-alone service. Our brains have the amazing ability to adapt and grow and neurofeedback serves as an option to help train our brains to regulate themselves.
I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who received my Master’s in Counseling from Western Seminary in 2009 and was licensed in 2012. My background includes experience in community mental health, private practice, addiction work, higher education, and cross-cultural issues.
Being invited into the process of counseling with an individual is an honor and I’d welcome the opportunity to join in on that journey with you.
