Niki Spotswood, MA, BA
Licensed Professional Counselor
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor working with adults who are searching for a greater sense of wholeness and fulfillment. I view therapy as a safe and powerful place to examine patterns and rework stuck points in your life. My approach can be both practical and depth-oriented; depending on your needs and preferences, our sessions could range from free-flowing exploration of your inner experience, to more structured and targeted steps in skills building and goal setting. Throughout the counseling process I will collaborate with you to find the strategies that work best for you, and I encourage your feedback along the way.
I tend to incorporate elements of Psychodynamic, Existential, Interpersonal, and Process-oriented approaches that create profound and lasting change by increasing self-understanding and decreasing inner conflict. Sometimes this work can make use of symbolic exercises such a dream work, artistic imagery, and metaphor. In our work together, you can expect me to take a stance of openness and nonjudgmental curiosity for the entire array of your experiences.
I hold dual master’s degrees in psychology - one in Counseling Psychology from Lewis & Clark Graduate School of Education and Counseling, and the other in Psychology with an emphasis in Cognitive Neuroscience from the University of California, Davis. I have knowledge and experience in helping individuals with anxiety-based disorders (including panic, phobias, and OCD), mood disorder, psychosis and other non-consensus realities, shame, relational difficulties, and gender transition. I also have experience and training in working with trauma, self esteem issues, life transitions, and specific clinical issues affecting LGBTQ+ communities. I am warm and compassionate, put people at ease, and take a gentle but direct approach that uses humor. I value diverse perspectives and will treat your experience and beliefs with acceptance and respect. I look forward to joining you in your journey toward personal growth, insight, and well-being.
