Nicole Bennett, DNP, MN, BA

Nationally Board Certified Family Psychiatric - Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

I am passionate about working to fill the gap in mental health care in our community with high quality and effective care. I seek to do this through my work with clients and through expanding availability to care when I co-founded Willamette Health & Wellness with my business partner, Anna Long, PMHNP, in 2013.

My philosophy for care is grounded in the science of nursing, holistic and collaborative treatment that assesses and addresses all aspects of an individual's needs. I take into consideration biological, psychological, and social/environmental issues, and I always involve patients (and parents/guardians when appropriate) in a collaborative process of decision-making. Since 2009, I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults in outpatient settings. I have also worked with youth in both a community mental health clinic and an inpatient hospital setting.

I have been involved in mental health and the healthcare field since 1997. After receiving my bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Santa Cruz, I worked in health promotion and prevention research for 12 years, and from this experience, I now bring to my therapeutic work a strong commitment to relapse prevention. I want my clients/patients to get better and stay better. At OHSU, I continued my education, becoming a Registered Nurse and then a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. In 2016 I completed a doctoral degree in Nursing in the University of Colorado, Denver. For 6 years, I held a position as Instructor then Assistant Professor at OHSU, educating students to become Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners.

I am nationally board certified as a Family Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, accredited to treat individuals across the lifespan. I am licensed as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in Oregon to provide both therapeutic treatment and prescription medications.

We are honored that Nicole received the Award for Excellence for Nurse Practitioners for the State of Oregon in 2018. This award was presented by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
